Could you give us an overview of your roles at WEG and the Young Entrepreneurs Association?

I am the chairman and CEO of Westline Education Group (WEG), which I co-founded in 2008. We manage and invest in schools, training centers, and consultancy services, serving over 15,000 students across 27 institutions. As the president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia, I advocate for policies that support small and medium enterprises and engage with government agencies to enhance opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Moreover, I seek business opportunities through networking with different channels including ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs Council and other young entrepreneurs platform across the globe.

What are your main objectives as president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association?

Our primary goals include improving access to finance, enhancing market access, and capacity building. We facilitate debt and equity financing for members by collaborating with banks and financial institutions. Additionally, we prepare small and medium enterprises for market competitiveness and compliance with local and international standards. This involves direct engagement with ministries and participating in policy development, ensuring our members’ voices are heard in the government. YEAC is a national representative and leading business association in Cambodia, with over 600 members and nearly 2000 member companies. YEAC worked with all Stakeholders, Government Partners, Decision Makers and all Eco-System for Entrepreneurs including Junior and Young Entrepreneurs in Cambodia.

With your impressive growth, what strategy fueled Westline Education Group’s expansion?

We began with limited resources and only two schools, but by focusing on strong governance and transparency, we attracted investment from private equity firms in 2011. Collaboration has been key; we offer various models for partnership, including franchising and joint ventures. This approach allows us to grow alongside other schools rather than just competing with them. We’re also preparing to list our company by 2028, showcasing our commitment to corporate governance.

We are resilient and seek collaboration rather than competition. Building a solid network can open doors to financing, mentorship, and opportunities. We also understand the importance of compliance and governance in our business practices, as these elements will attract investors and ensure sustainable growth.

Can you tell us about your main priorities and recent activities?

This year, we have expanded our student body significantly and have become a model for private education in Cambodia. We also established our training centre, which has become a leading provider of corporate training for both private companies and government agencies. Our focus on human capital development through our own training programs ensures we have a steady pipeline of skilled educators and administrators.

We assist students who wish to study or work abroad, particularly in countries like Japan, USA and the UK. We’re an authorized testing centre for Pearson and TOEFL, enabling students to meet international requirements. Our partnerships with international agencies help us provide comprehensive support for those looking to pursue opportunities overseas.

Education is vital for national development. It empowers individuals with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive market and fosters innovation. By investing in quality education and vocational training, we can create a workforce ready to meet the demands of an evolving economy. Our goal at WEG is not just to educate but to inspire our students to contribute to Cambodia’s growth actively.

Can you elaborate on Westline Education Group’s initiatives aimed at developing human capital in Cambodia?

Education is my passion, and I believe it can transform the country. As an advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, I focus on building a robust ecosystem for young entrepreneurs and enhancing education quality across all levels. Our efforts span from kindergarten to vocational training or university, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also character building and well-being.

We offer a variety of programs to prepare students for professional careers. For instance, we have partnered with international organizations to introduce leadership and financial literacy curricula. We provide training in digital skills, app development, and website design, preparing our students for a competitive global market. Our Educational Development Institute (EDI) focuses on professional training for young entrepreneurs and working professionals, ensuring they gain practical skills that align with industry needs.

How do you see the current state of the education sector in Cambodia, and what trends do you anticipate for its growth?

I’m very optimistic about the education sector. The government has prioritized human capital development, leading to significant reforms in primary and secondary education. There’s a notable increase in the quality of higher education as well, with many international universities setting up in Cambodia. As foreign direct investment continues to rise, the demand for high-quality education services will grow, particularly in areas like vocational training and digital skills.

What are Westline Education Group’s goals for 2025?

We aim to expand by opening four to five schools annually and exploring partnerships with government institutions to enhance educational access. We’re also considering launching our own university to train teachers and manage educational quality. Our direction includes investing in technical vocational training to address the skills gap in Cambodia.

 Cambodia is a developing country with immense potential for investment. The government is focused on creating a supportive environment for businesses, making it an attractive destination for investors.
